The GLCCB announced that the building at 241 W. Chase Street, which has been the headquarters for the 36 year-old organization since 1980, has been sold. Closing took place on May 31. The then Gay Community Center of Baltimore, under the leadership of Harvey Schwartz, had purchased the building to fulfill his as well as many other local activists’ vision that the Baltimore’s gay community needed to have its own space and moved from its rented Maryland Avenue address.
The prevalence of rape, physical violence or stalking by an intimate partner in the LGBTQ community is staggering.
• 43.8% of lesbians and 61.1% of bisexual women,compared to 35% of straight women
• 26% of gay men and 37.3% of bisexual men, compared to 29% of straight men

A little over a week before Baltimore was to celebrate its annual Pride weekend, a brouhaha developed as City Cafe owner Gino Cardinale and others met with the Mount Vernon-Belvedere Association (MVBA) to discuss issues relating to the block party planned for June 15.
