Don’t Bite the Hand that Feeds You!

Concerning OUTloud's coverage of Mortville and Occupy Baltimore, these protesting individuals do not represent 99% of Americans – perhaps 9%. I can understand Mortville’s calls for ENDA, an end to discrimination against LGBT persons, and the like.

However, the anti-capitalist rhetoric underlying the “Occupy” protests sounds like what I expect to come from the Kremlin or Red Square. Guaranteed income? Give me a break! Capitalism is not inherently evil or unfair. It is the best economic system ever conceived and encompasses the American Dream. Despite the implications made by the Occupy protesters, all corporations are not bad/evil/corrupt. The vast majority of Americans are employed by corporations. Don’t bite the hand that feeds you!

The cause of Wall Street's absurd profits is the feds allowing the big investment banks to borrow money at virtually 0% interest, which they invest for quick profits instead of lending it to worthy citizens and corporations that need the capital to buy homes and to expand (or start) businesses. Congress should pass legislation to stop this practice. Borrowing from the fed should only be available to pay withdrawals on demand accounts, and to make loans to consumers or businesses.

America is a capitalist nation; get used to it. Yes the economy sucks, but Wall Street is not the cause of the faltering economy. Numerous factors are to blame. Get a good education (major in a field with demand!), apply yourself, work hard, invent a better “mouse trap”, create your own destiny, take “ownership” of your own success, stop looking to Big Brother to hand everything to you on a silver platter! Stop the whining! If you can’t deal with or appreciate all the opportunities offered by a capitalist system, then consider moving to a communist nation with which you share common ideals!

The bottom line is, the Mortville participants are not doing themselves or their cause any favors by aligning themselves with the rest of the “Occupy” crowd, which does not share ideals or values with the vast majority of Americans.
