GLCCB Building Sold
Building deemed inadequate, relocation options under review
The GLCCB announced that the building at 241 W. Chase Street, which has been the headquarters for the 36 year-old organization since 1980, has been sold. Closing took place on May 31. The then Gay Community Center of Baltimore, under the leadership of Harvey Schwartz, had purchased the building to fulfill his as well as many other local activists’ vision that the Baltimore’s gay community needed to have its own space and moved from its rented Maryland Avenue address.
House of Ruth Extends Reach to LGBT Community
The prevalence of rape, physical violence or stalking by an intimate partner in the LGBTQ community is staggering.
• 43.8% of lesbians and 61.1% of bisexual women,compared to 35% of straight women
• 26% of gay men and 37.3% of bisexual men, compared to 29% of straight men

Block Party Concerns Spark Community Debate
A little over a week before Baltimore was to celebrate its annual Pride weekend, a brouhaha developed as City Cafe owner Gino Cardinale and others met with the Mount Vernon-Belvedere Association (MVBA) to discuss issues relating to the block party planned for June 15.
Mark Patro: A Man of Pride and Passion
The battle for marriage equality in Maryland was moving into high gear by July 3rd of last year. Polls indicated a tight contest on Question 6, creating much uncertainty and apprehension among the state’s thousands of same-sex couples and supporters who were hoping beyond hope that the bill that Governor O’Malley signed into law in March legalizing same-sex marriage would withstand a robust referendum attempt.
Talk and Walk Through Baltimore LGBT History
As Baltimore Pride arrives this weekend, it is a good time to reflect upon Baltimore’s place in the LGBT movement and to appreciate our accomplishments over the years. And from a historical perspective, what we had to do to get there. To that end, there will be two events that shed light on this city’s storied LGBT past.
Pride with the Orioles a Hit
Some of the 80 who purchased tickets for the GLCCB’s first annual “Pride with the Orioles” event on June 11. It was the first LGBT group of that size to attend an O’s game at Orioles Park at Camden Yards, and organizers hope to increase the participation in subsequent years. A portion of the money collected went to the GLCCB. As for the game, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim was defeated by the Baltimore Orioles of Baltimore 3-2.
A Happy Pride On the Way
The 38th annual Pride festivities in Baltimore on June 15-16 should feature a bit more hop in the steps of the paraders, a few more wide smiles among the folks around the festival’s booths, and a general feeling of accomplishment by the thousands who are expected to attend. For this Pride marks the first time that same-sex couples can legally marry in Maryland.
Pride Month Kicks Off With 2nd Charm City LGBT Film Fest
June is upon us and that means it must be Pride Month. We certainly have a lot to be proud of in Maryland this year, and this three-day Charm City LGBT Film Festival (plus a special kickoff event) at the Creative Alliance is the way to get things started.
