With the tenth Anniversary of Baltimore OUTloud being here I am reminded that everyday we are faced with “Reasons to Not.” Anniversaries, holidays, birthdays, weddings, funerals, Mothers’ Day, Christmas, Rosh Hashanah… There will always be reasons to not eat well, reasons to not exercise, reasons to not move, reasons to not love ourself fully. If we give in to the “Reasons to Not” on one day it becomes easier and easier to not the next day, and the day after that and so on. This downward spiral becomes harder and harder to pull ourselves out of.
There is so much fitness stuff out there with a different approach or a new way to scorch fat. Maybe they got the latest hot celebrity to endorse the product or system, I mean why not? I’m sure that’s how they got that body. It’s enough to make your head spin.
I recently read an article that discussed how so many trainers out there are constantly trying to use the latest tricks and toys to build their business. This got me thinking, does this actually work? Are clients really lured in by flashy toys and fancy dance-like moves that can be labeled as functional even though they mimic no real life movement or action?
The New Year is quickly approaching and with it the holiday season. It all culminates with a final countdown at 11:59:50 p.m. on December 31. Immediately after that, 12:00 a.m. January 1 we are supposed to begin working on becoming better than we were the year before, at least after the hangover wears off…
The biggest issues holding us back from being the strongest and best versions of ourselves is fear - Fear of failing, fear of commitment, fear of humiliation, fear of seeing how unhealthy or weak we actually are, fear of change, fear that we’ll be exposed! Fear is crippling and devious; it sneaks in and whispers in your ear, “Don’t try, you’ll just fail!” And other times it shouts at us, “YOU’RE UGLY, FAT AND EVERYONE WILL LAUGH AT YOU!!!” I’m going to give you a little secret about fear and what its true purpose is.
