A few weeks ago, I found out that my mother-in-law passed away. Her death was not unexpected; she had been bed-ridden for ten months and had been in significant pain. I wanted her suffering to stop, and I feel badly that that meant she’d be leaving us. She was always very good to me, and I loved her. Rest in peace, Elinor!

P is for Pride: our own – How do you express your pride in our GLBT community? It might be by participating in planning and organizing for Pride Weekend or it might be just being there and watching the parade. Maybe you express your pride with a bumper sticker or a flag. Maybe you simply hold hands in public.

With the tenth Anniversary of Baltimore OUTloud being here I am reminded that everyday we are faced with “Reasons to Not.” Anniversaries, holidays, birthdays, weddings, funerals, Mothers’ Day, Christmas, Rosh Hashanah… There will always be reasons to not eat well, reasons to not exercise, reasons to not move, reasons to not love ourself fully. If we give in to the “Reasons to Not” on one day it becomes easier and easier to not the next day, and the day after that and so on. This downward spiral becomes harder and harder to pull ourselves out of.
