An Interview with David Pevsner
I first met out actor David Pevsner when we were both “theatre jocks” at Niles East High School in Skokie, Illinois. We didn’t have a Gay/Straight Alliance way back when, so the theater department served that purpose. Since that time, it’s been a delight to watch his professional career take off as it has. From appearances in the off-Broadway hit Howard Crabtree’s When Pigs Fly to his own original theatrical creations, such as writing songs for Naked Boys Singing (including “Perky Little Porn Star”) as well as roles on television and in movies. David was recently seen portraying Elizabeth Taylor’s doctor in the Lifetime movie Liz and Dick. For his first lead role in a feature film, he takes on one of the most reviled but redeemed characters in literature, Ebenezer Scrooge in Scrooge & Marley (scroogeandmarleymovie.com), a contemporary gay retelling of Dickens’ A Christmas Carol.

An interview with Mitch Grassi of Pentatonix
Mitch Grassi is one of two openly gay members of Pentatonix, an a cappella group that came to fame via its appearance on the NBC series The Sing Off. Pentatonix, who have just released Volume 1 (Madison Gate), a six-song EP, including their cover of Gotye’s Somebody That I Used To Know, is hitting the road on a multi-city US tour during the fall and early winter of 2012. I spoke to Mitch about Pentatonix in late summer 2012.
Multi-faceted: An Interview with Diamond Rings
The autumn 2012 release of EDM act Diamond Ring’s second disc “Free Dimensional” (Astralwerks) capped off what turned out to be a dazzling year for LGBT music. Diamond Rings (aka John O’Regan) delivers on the promise of his 2010 full-length debut “Special Affections” by generously expanding his sound to incorporate raps and a more concentrated club style and sound. The beats are more deliberate on songs such as “I’m Just Me“ and “(I Know) What I’m Made Of,” making them the ideal selections for dancing the night away.
Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves
An Interview with Filmmaker Lynn Shelton
Straight filmmaker Lynn Shelton sure likes the gays. Her 2009 comedic feature Humpday was about a hetero bromance that went to the next level. Without giving away too much about detail, in Your Sister’s Sister (IFC Films), a film stocked with a variety of “reveals,” lesbians get their due on screen. The movie shines a spotlight on strained sibling relationships and complicated friendships and doesn’t offer any easy answers as it makes you laugh and cry and keeps you guessing. I spoke with Lynn Shelton in June 2012. Your Sister’s Sister is being released on Blu-ray and DVD in early November.
