“So, how are the pedophiles doing?”

As a group psychotherapist for convicted sex offenders on parole and probation who also operates a private practice for queer people, I am bombarded with comments and questions from friends and family:

“Aren’t you scared?”

“I could never do that.”

“What’s it like to talk to all those child molesters?”

This past couple of weeks is has been a cornucopia of events that have all impacted trans rights and/or the public perceptions of trans folk. I will start off with this note from my dad sent to me one morning this past week:

“I just read about the book Warrior Princess. The Navy Seal Chris Beck who is now Kristen Beck, she is just beautiful. Just my note for the day.” – Pa

Pride is such a great time of year – especially when there have been notable victories in our never ending struggle to achieve full equality. Last year, we in Maryland celebrated the historic passage of marriage equality and we were in the midst of a referendum battle that created uncertainty but also a degree of activism on the part of the LGBT community that had not been seen in previous years.

Yo, it’s Pride ! Good cheer and vibrations, and feelings of love are all around us. This energized, exciting atmosphere can make you feel even more connected – particularly if you are part of a couple. And who knows? If you’re single, you might just stumble across that “hawt” prospect who has the definite potential to be an enduring lover or significant other.
