Court Rules Prop 8 Unconstitutional

Ruling applies to California; likely headed to Supreme Court

On February 7, the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco struck down the ban on same-sex marriage in California. In doing so, the court upheld the August 2010 ruling by U.S. Chief Judge Vaughn Walker of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California in Perry v. Schwarzenegger (now Perry v. Brown) that the amendment to the California Constitution barring marriage for same-sex couples, adopted in November 2008 as Proposition 8, violates the U.S. Constitution.

February 5, New York- Gathering at the Waldorf Astoria at 50th Street & Park Avenue in New York, the Gay Glitterati scarfed up victuals so savory that they came at the price of $650 a plate. The bourgeois gathering was sponsored by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) to honor the global investment banking and securities firm, Goldman Sachs.

Megan Edwards and her partner Katie MacTurk have been attending St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia. They decided to enter the "How I Met My Hawk Mate" contest. They entered the story of how they met during their senior year with a photo at the contest run by the Saint Joseph's Alumni Association. The association refused to use their photo. The couple demanded answers.
