Planning for all of the monumental moments that lead to the day when there will be an empty nest is priceless. However, there are parents who may not experience this event because they have children with special needs.

Real Parenting: Beyond 2012

The last first day is quickly approaching for many LGBT parents. After cultivating the seed, many parents are now preparing to reap the benefits from repeated life lectures and sleepless nights triggered by the young adult in your life. The senior year in high school posses a challenging proposition to you and your young adult. Realigning your role as parent is imperative to enjoying the last year of high school with your young adult.

Swim wear? Check! Itinerary? Check! Passports? Check!  It sounds like it is time to travel.  Now that the big things are in order, do not forget to make a safety checklist.  Times have changed and we can no longer simply plan a trip, pack and leave.  With ever changing rules and regulations it is important to know how to protect yourself and your child while traveling whether they are with you, an organized group, or a few buddies.

No More Cruise Control

What does that mean? It means the transition has started and you must earn continuing education credits in Parenting 101. Parents sometimes do not recognize the shift in the way their child communicates new needs until it is too late. Basic communication skills that have worked in the past are your reference book; however, children 'speak' differently during maturing phases.
